A Johns Hopkins study suggests a delay of just months can cost lives. Epidemiologist Neil Powe studied long-term outcomes of over 800 dialysis patients. 70% were evaluated early by a specialist, at least a year prior to starting dialysis and those that got evaluated earlier had almost two times greater survival than those that were evaluated late.
